Jardin Majorelle

Just outside Marrakech's historic center, this lush, eccentric botanical garden is a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Jardin Majorelle was originally designed in the 1920's by famed French artist, Jacques Majorelle. It has been open to the public since 1947 and owned by Yves Saint Laurent since 1980. The designer's infatuation with Marrakech is well documented, so it was no surprise that his ashes were scattered in the garden upon his death in 2008.

A visit to Marrakech was a great shock to me. This city taught me color.
